Will We Ever Have A Lasting Peace
By Clyde E. Gumbs

There’s a world so very heartless

There’s a world where people hate

There’s a world of war and terror

Where people seek to dominate

A world where all are fighting something

Does it make you think and pause

Do you need an adversary

Just to have a worthy cause

There’s so much separation

There’s so much of we and they

When it happens not to you and yours

To most it is okay

I wonder how it’s possible

It seems so very odd

That children die and suffer

From actions in the name of God

So much talk of fighting evil

There’s always someone else to blame

Who is devoid of wickedness

Who is devoid of shame

For those who speak of justice

And think that vengeance can be earned

When they search for guilt and innocence

Is there a lesson to be learned

If you seek to find the guilty

Search the mirror that you see

If you seek to find the innocent

Look at your enemy

Will we ever learn the lesson

Will all the madness ever cease

Will we surrender all the pretense

Will we ever have a lasting peace
