As you look across this country
Such abundance you can find
But in parts of awesome cities
Live those who have been left behind
When great talk of opportunity
Echoed throughout this and other lands
Only debilitating poverty
Was placed within their hands
They are the sons and daughters
Descendants of the kings and queen
Who created the greatest culture
That the world has ever seen
But in days of recent memory
They have suffered great abuse
Endless lies and inhumanity
Exploitation and misuse
They have endured the pain and sorrow
Have endured suffering and grief
They have endured so many indignities
But retained divine belief
I must say it is remarkable
That they could just survive
But the time is now at hand
To stand and revitalize
These children of great kings and queens
Have suffered far too long
Today they declare the past complete
To a great future they belong
Others may stand in disbelief
Based on all that others see
When asked about the transformation
Others say it could never be
Although life may never be easy
As they move throughout the day
With the faith that is eternal
They will always find a way
But in the face of all the burdens
They have worked to make a plan
The likes of which has never been
Anywhere in all the land
This plan and their commitment
Create a future bold and new
It will improve the lives of children
This much we know is true
The fulfillment of this plan
May not bring honors and fame
But after its fulfillment
The world will never be the same
Today they cast a vote for freedom
Cast a vote for dignity
A vote to cause a miracle
What others said could never be
