There is a girl I know so well
I've watched her grow in every way
She's always lived in language
To read, to write, to say
I remember when she learned to speak
Whole sentences she'd say
I remember when she learned to read
She read as a form of play
But what I found most remarkable
It still amazes me
While other children wrote just simple words
She wrote great poetry
I wondered where she got this gift
It could never have been from me
For although I loved the written word
I hid it deep inside of me
She expresses herself with brilliance
Writes with great facility
Her dreams, her thoughts, her feelings
Cast forth for all the world to see
Her writings paint great pictures
Of times so good and times so lean
Her writings bring reality
To things that I've never seen
Her writings challenge me to think
Her writings offer hope
Her writings call for greatness
Her writings help me cope
Her mastery of the written word
Is evident to all
Her writings touch the young and old
And do humble the great and small
